a letter to self-care

dear you,

please put on your to-do list for everyday.. self-care. why, you ask? i'll tell you but first, answer this question. who are the people you love the most? … now be honest, how long did it took you, to say or write your own name? at what point or number did you say, [insert own name]?

self-care, well-being and mental health. compassion should include yourself. not saying you should be selfish but if you don't take care of yourself, you cannot take care of others. sound cliche huh? i know. but trust me on this one, you cannot pour from an empty cup.. not for yourself and not for others.

so how does one "self-care"? not everything that works for you will work for somebody else. the secret is to take a pinch from each lesson or trick you find alongside the way and make it your own.

i'm talking about drinking water, eating your vitamin c's, making sure you reach those 20k steps, detoxing, enjoying that bar of chocolate or even walking back to take that extra bottle of wine in the grocery store on a wednesday afternoon. a walk on the beach or a midnight stroll. incense or essential oils, paperback or e-reader. it's your choice.

to be honest, it doesn't have to be as long as a 12-step skincare routine. it can be 5-10minutes. shall i tell you a secret or two? do you remember that cup of chamomile tea, masturbating in the morning before getting out of bed, a motivating pep talk in front of the mirror? that's also self care.

so please don't be so hard on yourself. self-care comes in many shapes but it's up to you, to choose what's best for you.
