One Fits All or All Fits One

I envy people who can stick to one field and have one 'hobby' on the side. Oh, what a delightful life that must be. Yet, here I am trying to juggle day trading, creating content, hosting events, building an application, writing for two platforms, whilst a secret project or two sits on the back burner. And yes, I will pick them up sooner or later. Is that the burden of being a first-born daughter with undiagnosed ADHD?

I was busy editing a video and at the same time listening to a friend who was talking to me and I didn't miss a beat of what she was saying. And there was another time, when I was on the phone with a client, speaking in English while my co-workers were having a discussion about something; I muted my call, responded to them in Dutch, unmuted it again, and carried on in English.

Now, before you start diagnosing me in your head after reading that, maybe I'm just a good listener. But I digress.

Let's try and find my through-line. Cause all of this is not because of boredom. I'll let you in on a secret. I'd never been bored, not until my therapist told me last year that to overcome my depletion of physical and mental energy, I had to be bored. No, not doomscrolling or hiking in Zurich. Think more staring-at-the-ceiling bored. I tried it, and what I discovered is that I like being busy. I just needed a better overview of my agenda.

Now let's circle back to all that juggling. All I'm really trying to do is create meaningful experiences. My interest? How ideas, money, spaces, stories and technology shape the way people live. And unfortunately, I love turning those ideas into experiences, businesses and conversations. I know it makes me sound scattered, like I can't sit still. But the mission is creating value, and in my world that isn't limited to one thing.

I think the correct term is a multipotentialite. Plus, I have this deep fascination with curation. My e-book, Soulful Snacking? Helping people organise their fridge and freezer with a system that takes away the heaviness of cooking. My day trading course? Making sure people understand the fundamentals of the market and how and where to start, with what I call a 'more dynamic way of investing.' Mindset & Matcha? A conversation series I started because I find most events aren't interactive enough when it comes to mindfulness.

I don't necessarily want to be the person doing one technical thing for 40 years, but my two whiteboards can tell that story better than I can. I can confidently say I've stopped trying to force myself into one box. I'm fascinated by finance, inspired by creativity, curious about technology, obsessed with good hospitality design, and always writing or thinking about ideas. I'm a multipotentialite who likes bringing different worlds into the same room and finding the idea, story or opportunity that appears in between them.

Some of my favourite conversations happen when two worlds unexpectedly overlap. Talking about ambition and wellbeing over matcha, discussing finance through the lens of psychology, or looking at a hotel not just as a business but as a piece of design, culture, human experience or simply a place where I can also take my laptop with me and work.

I did stare at my ceiling and let my mind wander. It wandered to all the unanswered Instagram messages, the trade I took that morning via TopStep and the closing time of the grocery store near me. With both of my feet on the floor and the rest of my body on the couch, I was already busy thinking about the next idea, whatever that may have been at the time.

I love hosting so Mindset & Matcha started with a simple question via ChatGPT: "I wanna organise a matcha afternoon at my place with 2-3 friends…" Four days later, that question turned into "let's do it on location with ~20 people." An exact part of my prompt was: "I actually want a day where people can go home and think about what they've heard, think about the conversations that they had with other people". The first edition was about 'food' which came from my e-book: Soulful Snacking.

That's also how my thought process goes whenever it comes to an idea that popped up in my mind. First I run it through one person, then AI, or the other way around.

So do I still envy the people with one field and one hobby on the side? No, not anymore. Because that delightful life was never mine to pursue. I don't need one thing that fits all of me. I needed all of it to fit into one person, and it finally does.
